At the end of June, I made the leap of faith and married my best friend, Kelly. The wedding was a lot of hard work, but in the end, everything was perfect. We had a great photographer shoot the day, Natalie Williams. It was a busy day and she managed to photograph it all. Kelly and I had our ceremony in a small baptist church in Yorba Linda, with the reception following at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Anaheim. The next morning we took an early flight to Oahu. It was Kelly's first time in Hawaii, so she was excited when we arrived. I will blog more photos in a few days, but I first wanted to post a couple images.
We were in Oahu over 4th of July weekend, so we figured a good way to celebrate that day was by going to Pearl Harbor to honor those who lost their lives fighting for our country. It was a weird feeling looking around and figuring out what happened that day. The image below was the best way I could interpret how I viewed that day.

For the photographers out there, yes, this is an HDR(Tonemapped) image. I couldnt bring a tripod with me so this was all handheld with 3 exposures.
One day, after hiking, we took a detour to see more of the island before heading back to the hotel. We were coming up on the Makapuu lighthouse when I saw a beach I found interesting. To me, this image is what Hawaii is all about.

This was my first year attending the Mint, but because of the history, I knew it would be a good one to attend. I started my trek out to the race with my good friend, AJ. We couldn't make it out to Las Vegas until Friday night so we had to miss tech down Fremont Street, which was one event I was looking towards. Saturday morning started early for us as we woke up at 5 am to head over to Start/Finish. After waiting in the long line to exit I-15, we knew it was going to be an exciting race. I circled around Start/Finish as the SNORE Volunteers helped us find the guy to get our media passes. From there, we headed down to Pit C. I figured I could cover the most course in a smaller area. Once we arrived to Pit C, we packed our backpacks and started to walk down course. About half of a mile down, we came up on some triple downs. I wanted to see what the cars would do while going through there on their first lap. First to arrive was Roger Norman in the #8 Trophy Truck. I first stood on the sunny side of the coarse to give me the best lighting, until Norman took the turn a bit wide dropping into the hole.
I loved the shot it gave me, but realized that it wasn't the safest option so I went to the inside. By doing that, it caused me to shoot in to the sun, so on the close up shots, I had to use the flash to help fill in the shadow of the car. It gave me some more unique shots.
The Mint 400 has been known to be one of the roughest courses. It has proven itself every year and this year was no different. It not only was rough on the race vehicles, but was rough on cameras too. My camera decided to DNF after about half of the cars came through on their first laps. I attempted to get it going again but it finally gave up. While I was trying to get it going, Driver Steve Hengeveld, new to the Trophylite class, but not new to off road. About 50 feet down the course, he blew apart his 3rd member case. We talked to him a little bit while they looked the truck over. Steve and his co-driver finally got the truck running again and took off. Sharing driving duties with his brother, they finished the race, with only 20 miles of testing beforehand.
After Steve took off, my camera broken and it nearing lunch time, we decided to get going back home before we hit traffic on the way home. SNORE has proven themselves to me time and time again, that they put on a well thought out race, thinking of the racers. I will be trying to make it to more SNORE races throughout the year. Last Thursday, a friend of mine told me that he was racing the Glen Helen 6 hour endurance race along with a few others I know as well. I've heard a lot about these races so I figured it was a good opportunity to shoot photos of something new. I decided to make the short trip over to Glen Helen Raceway with my fiance, Kelly, and my good friend, Brad from SUD Productions. We got there about an hour before the start, which gave us a good amount of time to set up our equipment before the race began. Brad, Kelly and I walked over to the start and were amazed how many bikes had entered. Most of the racers had teams of two or more people to split it up, but there were a few, like our friend Pat Bleckert, who ironmanned the race.
After the start, we headed over to an infield section where they went up the hills and over a bridge they have set up. It was one racer after another coming through so I was able to catch a few good shots of some guys fighting for positions.
We were told about a small creek that they had to ride through for part of the track so we decided to head over that way next. It was a good walk to get there, but I'm glad we found it. It was a smooth section that had some flowing water going through it which led to a big turn up a hill. I thought this would give me a different look to the photos.
We spent a good amount of time there before heading back towards the infield section. I decided to start using my flash a bit to experiment (Sorry if I blinded any of you). I liked the way a lot of the shots with the flash came out. I was able to expose for the scene without having he shadows on the riders.
We then walked back to the bridge for a little and shot there before we decided to pack it up and head home.
I just wanted to say good job to Pat Bleckert and his 4th place finish in the ironman class. 6 hours on a bike is rough and you pulled it off.

After being sick for the week prior, I managed to make it to Primm, NV for SNORE's 2010 Battle at Primm. This race is a non-stop battle for the finish line. With the weather picking up and still being kind of sick, I was only able to get shots of the 1450 race on Saturday. This was still more than enough action for the weekend. With 72 racers on a 12 mile track, it was an exciting weekend.

They have done a lot for me so I quickly replied yes. I also was wanting to play around with some flash techniques so I thought it would be a good time to experiment. We went right down the street from there house and found a secluded canyon just off the road. We spent quite a bit of time down there and I was very excited to get home to look how the shots turned out on my laptop.
Since I was there with my fiance as well, I handed my camera over to AJ and gave him a few pointers. I adjusted the settings and did the final edit. He did pretty well though!
